HandMade in America – Re-branding & Website

HandMade in America website

The Design One Team modified the original identity for HandMade in America and developed a new website design for the organization that streamlined the existing site architecture and substantially increased functionality with a custom content management system. The redesign more clearly identifies HandMade’s brand and role in the region, promotes artists and inspires support. Website features include a custom, drag ‘n drop trip planner, a self-managed member registration/information section and an online admin system for the HandMade staff to manage content like event submissions. In addition to many custom features implemented for the HandMade in America site, Design One also worked closely with them to improve their search results. In the first two months after launch, the updates resulted in a 76% increase in page views, a 91% increase in pages per visit, a 94% increase in time spent on the site. The result was a powerful web presence for HandMade in America.

The Power of the Purse!

The Power of the Purse

For the sixth year, Design One was proud to be a sponsor of The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina’s Power of the Purse Luncheon. Women all over western North Carolina have become accustomed to seeing the distinctive purse-shaped invitation in their mailboxes in early April signaling the May event. This year, one thousand women gathered at the Crowne Plaza Resort in Asheville to be inspired and empowered by Cokie Roberts, ABC News Political Analyst, and to celebrate the power of women’s philanthropy. The event is expected to add over $60,000 to The Foundation’s Women’s Fund, a permanent endowment to address the unmet needs of women and girls throughout the region.

Dining Out For Life Sets New Donation Record!

Dining Out For Life

Design One has donated our services to The Western North Carolina AIDS Project (WNCAP) to promote their Dining Out For Life event since its inception in 2002. The national Dining Out For Life organization adopted the fork symbol and graphics designed by Design One in 2005 as the symbol to be used to promote the event nationwide. This year, despite tough economic times, WNCAP set a new record high for donations for the event held on April 26. They surpassed last year’s total by over $8000, raising an incredible $119,000. Amazingly, only 6.5% of the total income will go to cover expenses – the rest will go to support the important mission of the Western North Carolina AIDS Project, providing prevention & education services throughout WNC while assisting over 400 clients affected by HIV/AIDS. Twice the Tupelo… Sweet!

Tupelo Honey Cafe Campaign

Tupelo Honey Cafe Campaign

Design One has been very busy helping Tupelo Honey Cafe launch their new location in south Asheville. Our task was to position the new restaurant as an extension of one of downtown’s favorite eateries while creating a persona for its more suburban location. We developed social media, created online, print and outdoor advertising, redesigned menus and promotional materials and revamped the website… Whew! The result? Two hour waits from the time the doors opened.

“Art is a Disease. There is no cure for it.”

Charles Counts Exhibition

Charles Counts Exhibition

“Art is a Disease. There is no cure for it.” This prophetic statement was made by Charles Counts early in his long career as a potter, artist, teacher, philosopher and poet. Design One worked with Southern Highland Craft Guild’s curator to design exhibit panels and a 68 page catalog for a retrospective exhibition. We enjoyed the challenge of arranging the work chronologically, while aiming to reflect the cohesiveness in such a diverse body of work. Almost as challenging was the non-stop pace through 3 winter storms, with a 50 mph gust blowing us in to deliver in time for the Feb. 5th reception.

The Jewel of the Blue Ridge Turns 75

Blue Ridge Parkway

The Blue Ridge Parkway, Asheville’s favorite nearby escape celebrates a huge milestone in 2010 – it turns 75! We were happy to be small part of bringing attention to this national treasure by developing a logo, exhibition banners to travel around NC and Virginia, and designing promo materials for the kick-off celebration weekend that took place in late November. One of the most fun aspects of our involvement was being able to select vintage postcards from the National Park Service collection to include in the printed collateral. Ready for Some Serious Fun?

Melon Bicycles

Melon bicycles came to Design One with an exciting new product, new to the industry: a 25 lb. folding bicycle with 20-inch wheels. Bet you haven’t ridden a bike this fun since you were popping wheelies on your banana seat bicycle in the seventies, and neither had we! But this is a serious eight-gear bike built for adults that’s a blast to ride and easy to take anywhere. The downside? You won’t get to have a bike rack on the back of your Subaru to show everyone how green and outdoorsy you are! www.melonbicycles.com

UST Logistical Systems

UST Logistical Systems

UST Logistical Systems is an incredible success story and needed an image makeover to reflect their growth and differentiate their services within the competitive home delivery industry. From a modest start in 1998 with one truck, one driver and one helper, to sixteen trucks traversing the Carolinas just a year later, today, UST has evolved into a world class logistical company with over 200 trucks on the road throughout the United States. www.uste3.com
